This past weekend, I had the privilege of guiding an amazing group of people through the Taking Yoga Off The Mat Retreat. I walked away from the experience feeling blissful and calm, a feeling which was only a reflection of what the retreat participants were projecting. We enjoyed a fun variety of asana practices, some inspiring discussions about yoga philosophy, creative workshops on integrating the teachings of yoga into our daily lives, relaxing guided meditation sessions, peaceful time outside in the beautiful Colorado spring weather, and a lot of laughter. As the weekend progressed, I could feel the energy of the group shift away from the stressors of day-to-day life and relax into the joys of sharing the love of yoga with each other. Everyone had a unique perspective to bring to the group, and it seems that everyone walked away having gained something from the experience. Perhaps simply an enjoyable change of routine for this one weekend, but maybe something more: a greater perspective of what yoga has to offer us, some useful tips for cultivating a regular meditation practice, some tools for relieving stress or communicating with others, the desire to continue on their own personal yoga journeys or share that joy with others.
