Connecting Body and Mind….through Yoga & Farming by Sarah Breanne Shultz, TTC Participant

February 20, 2019 by Krista Davis Leave a Comment

I decided to do my SEVA Project at by volunteering at GrowHaus…a non profit indoor farm, food production, distribution and education program in North Denver. Amidst the most polluted zip code in Colorado sits a beautiful Oasis of fresh organic produce. A hydroponic farm that grows lush leafy greens that are distributed throughout the Denver area using 90% less water than conventional farming sold at a low cost to lower income families that reside in the neighborhood. They also offer a no cost food pantry and educational cooking classes emphasizing the value and importance of a nutritional diet.

I chose GrowHaus because it really pertains to my personal value of the importance of healthy organic food as well as supporting community organizations. I have found that practicing yoga and meditation has made me more aware of what my body needs and when it feels best. Before this journey I felt a disconnection between my body and mind. After a lifelong struggle of depression, addiction and feeling lost in this world.. I was introduced to yoga, hungover on a New Year’s day, which changed my life. 108 sun salutations later, I made it thru my 1st class feeling the best I ever had..setting intentions and manifesting a new way of life.

Throughout my practice I slowly started to feel a connection between my body and spirit and a shift from self-destruction to a new found love of self care. I began a lifelong journey of healing, loving and developing a personal relationship with myself that I never even knew existed, giving my body the nourishment it needs and deserves. I want to share this new found knowledge and way of life with others which is why I chose to go to Holistic Yoga School to deepen my personal practice and become a yoga instructor. From the minute I walked into that school I felt so much love and encouragement from the variety of teachers and students in my class. It has become more of a sanctuary then a school. I am so grateful for this education and experience as well as excited for the endless possibilities that lie ahead!
