For those yogis in search of inspiration, there exist a number of possibilities for extending the practice – on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. Many yoga studios honor their students’ desire to delve deeper into the practice, thus offering workshops and retreats. At Holistic Yoga School & Studio, there exist a myriad of opportunities to explore the various facets of yoga, with or without the conventional desire to teach. The most intimate of these opportunities are the yoga retreats.
As different as our individual paths may feel, there are common themes and threads streaming through our lives, provoking us to dedicate ourselves to our yoga practice, even if just for a weekend. Perhaps one of the following will resonate with you.
Why Attend a Yoga Retreat?
A desire to deepen the practice– The most common and perhaps most obvious of these reasons is simply the desire to learn more about our yoga practice and the ways in which we can more authentically live from this space. Perhaps there is a specific aspect of yoga that intrigues you, such as Ayurveda, Pranayama or Mediation or perhaps you simply want the extended time of a weekend to fully digest the principles we cover so briefly during an hour class.
A sense of community – Something profoundly sweet and subtle occurs in the midst of yoga retreats, as people share together in asana, mediation and insight. Within the intimate setting of a retreat, participants cannot help but grow closer. The essence of yoga begs us to practice mindfulness and compassion, forever acknowledging the ways we can exist in alignment and with authenticity. Doing so requires us to show up in a vulnerable space, thereby inviting new friendships, insights and growth. Retreats naturally create this space.
A shift in perspective – It is human nature to grow stagnant and in search of something bigger than ourselves. As we grow into adulthood, we see and are forced to accept that life is difficult. There are days we despise our jobs, grow frustrated with a co-worker, lose our temper with a child or fight with our spouses. This is life and it is so easy to take for granted the good in our daily existence. Sometimes, however, we need a break or a shift in perspective, to remind us of how to live with compassion, open hearts and detachment. Sometimes a retreat away from the mundane can empower us to see with stark clarity, the things to which we are blinded.
Simple curiosity – Perhaps a specific retreat or workshop just sounds intriguing. Whether it is covering a new topic, the yoga diet or led by a teacher whom you enjoy, sometimes it is simple curiosity that entices us to attend a retreat.
